Around 280 students who were present in the University of Houston were reportedly forced to withdraw from the classes altogether. On the other hand, 880 students were partially removed after Harvey struck to Texas, the Hurricane swept off the populated areas of South-Eastern Texas back in August in the year 2017. And now, Qatar is reportedly a $500,000 scholarship programme which is aimed at helping the students who have been affected by Harvey, according to the press release.
The Rebuild Texas Fund, sponsored by Qatar is aiming to help the communities of Texas to recover from Harvey devastated the area. According to the sources, Rebuild Texas Fund is going to provide $5,000 in the form of a scholarship to at least 300 students who were attaining their education in the University of Houston-Downtown, University of Houston- Clear Lake, as well as the University of Houston-Victoria.
According to the sources, the average rate of a scholarship will be around 1,667 US Dollars per student. On the other hand, the scholarship is going to assist the students with a minimum of unmet costs such as room fees, tuition fees, book, board fees, and educational supplies. The scholarship will also assist with the transportation of the students in the forthcoming academic session of 2019-2020.
The eligibility of the scholarship is extended to the students who haven’t enrolled themselves again. By the looks of it, the students whose credits have been reduced to hours and the ones who are having a tough time to maintain the enrollment because of the hardship that they are facing due to Harvey are also eligible to attain a scholarship. According to the press release, these students have been reportedly contacted by the authorities of the university(s) so that they can resume their education again. The priorities are given to the students who have not been helped in any way.
