The education dept in Gauteng has reportedly postponed the beginning of the online application admission for 1st and 8th grade for the academic year of 2020. Previously the date for online application was on the 13th of May, and it has been postponed to 20th of May.

Steve Mabona, the spokesperson of Gauteng education, said that the new move by FEDSAS or Federation of Association of Governing Bodies of South African Schools, SGB Associations, SAOU aka Suid-Afrikaanse Ondeewysunie and a union had raised significant concerns.

According to Mabona, the new admission period will begin from 20th of May to the 22nd of July. The education department also claimed that the stakeholders have reportedly pleaded Gauteng’s Membership of Executive Councils, Panyaza Lesufi to delay the date of online admissions as. The reason for the delay is that the provincial education department will implement the amended admissions regulations along with the feeder zone.

Lesufi said that if people of Gauteng start putting their language above what is suitable for their children, this will become extremely unfortunate.

The ongoing battle the Gauteng are facing and the reason why the people are interdicting to them, they also believe that the language of the city is presently under threat. Lesufi has been ensuring the people that the common language of the city is not under threat and there is no superior language than the native one. Every single language is going to be treated equally, given that the people desire to use the language that will exclude others; they are going to fight the battle.

Carien Bloem by AfriForum said earlier this week that both of the organizations are extremely concerned regarding the way how the online registration platform for the schools came to effect. The system has made no provision for the parents for choosing the appropriate school for their kids. The schools that are located nearby the residential addresses of the parents were the first choice.
